Sciatica

Sciatica is pain that travels along the sciatic nerve, running from your lower back through your hips and buttocks, down your leg—usually on one side. It’s most often caused by a herniated disc, bone spur, or spinal narrowing that presses on a nerve.

What it feels like:

·  Pain that can range from mild aching to sharp, burning, or severe discomfort

·  Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the leg or foot

·  Symptoms may worsen with sitting, standing, coughing, or sneezing

Diagnosis & Treatment:
Doctors use a physical exam, medical history, and imaging to confirm the cause. Treatment usually starts with rest, medications, physical therapy, or injections. Most people improve in a few weeks, but surgery may be considered if symptoms are severe or persistent. Earlier surgery helps prevent long-term nerve problems.
